A reading at the Sacramento Poetry Center featuring the work of many fine California poets, featuring the new anthology from the Small Change Series of Word Temple Press.

All proceeds from the sale of the book What Redwoods Know will go to the California State Parks Foundation.

What Redwoods Know — Poems from California State Parks contains 43 pages of poems written by 14 poets, 2 of them from Sacramento — Francisco X. Alarcón and Susan Kelly-DeWitt.  All the poets in the book will have their work read at the reading, whether it is read by that poet or by someone else.  Bob Stanley will host the event for SPC, and Katherine Hastings, the book’s editor, will introduce the poets.

ABOUT SOME OF THE CONTRIBUTORS

Francisco X. Alarcón, award winning Chicano poet and educator, is the author of twelve volumes of poetry, including, From the Other Side of Night: Selected and New Poems (University of Arizona Press 2002), and Ce•Uno•One: Poems for the New Sun (Swan Scythe Press 2010). He is the creator of the Facebook page: POETS RESPONDING TO SB 1070.

Katherine Hastings is the author of Cloud Fire, forthcoming from Spuyten Duyvil Press in 2012; and the chapbooks Fog and Light  (Ahadada Press, 2011); Updraft (Finishing Line Press, 2010); and Sidhe (dPress, 2007).  She hosts WordTemple on NPR affiliate KRCB FM in Santa Rosa, CA, and is the founder of the WordTemple Poetry Series in Sonoma County, CA.  (For more information go to www.wordtemple.com <http://www.wordtemple.com/> .)


Iris Jamahl Dunkle teaches writing at University of California, Santa Cruz.  Her poetry manuscript Alphabet of Bones was a finalist for the Levis Prize, Four Way Books.  Her chapbook Inheritance was published by Finishing Line in 2010.  Her poetry, creative nonfiction and scholarly articles have appeared in numerous publications.
Susan Kelly-DeWitt is the author of The Fortunate Islands (Marick Press), as well as eight small press collections. She has been featured on Writer’s Almanac and Verse Daily.  Her work also appears in many journals and anthologies, most recently The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry.

Lee Slonimsky’s fourth book of poems, Logician of the Wind, was published by Orchises Press of Washington DC in 2012.  Together with his wife, Carol Goodman, he also writes Lee Carroll’s Black Swan trilogy:  Black Swan Rising; The Watchtower; and The Shape Stealer.
Robert Sward is a Guggenheim Fellow, chosen by Lucille Clifton for a Villa Montalvo Literary Arts Award and author of more than 20 books, includingFour IncarnationsHeavenly SexGod is in the Cracks and The Collected Poems (now in its 2nd printing).  New & Collected Poems, 1957-2011 is due out Oct. 1, 2011, from Red Hen Press.
