The 2015 Sac Grand Slam Champ is Marques Davison aka Sho’Nuff! He is a local hip hop vet, recent Sammies nominee and a founding member of ETW in 2005. Never scared to come across Sc@tterbrained, Ike Torres, is committed to this team. He represented the 05′ and 06′ Sac Slam Team! His one man show sold out — teaching artists how to take hold of their own destiny through self production. He called on David Loret de Mola to direct the show. The 2 traveled to Italy to represent Sacramento at the 100,000 Poets For Change conference in June. David aka AndYes has been a player in the Sacramento improv scene for years now, but is an accomplished poet. AndYes has published several chapbooks and teaches poetry to all, 2nd graders to senior citizens. Taking the 4th spot on the team is an activist with a passion for this city and making an impact with words, Rob Esperanza. He is new to the slam scene, but with volumes of work waiting to be crafted into dynamic performance poetry. The youngest member of the team is Brandon Leake out of Stockton. His poetry found legs in college creating multiple open mic’s for other hungry artist to grow. The 5 poets will be coached by Jenny Davison aka Jenilynn, she has been facilitating the ETW since becoming independent of Sacramento City College. She was the co-coach for Life Sentence Slam Team in 09’ that finished 5th in the nation overall for team pieces. All of these amazing poets have contributed to the local community through workshops, community events and mentoring the youth, free in most cases. Theirs is passion for sparking conversations through the arts and opening a dialog between the melting pot of cultures Sacramento is lucky to be home for.
